Another thing you need to know about boards, are the 1x boards. Meaning, those that come 1 x 6, 1 x 8, etc. Because those too are not what you would imagine them to be! A 1 x 6 is actually 5 1/2"... like the 2x boards mentioned above. However, the 1 x 8 boards are only 7 1/4" - not 7 1/2". And 1 x 10 boards come in the same at 9 1/4". Just things to be aware of when you're crafting/creating.

I literally have a pile of lumber at our house that I route through for projects all the time. You might have a piece of wood cut from somewhere custom like a furniture maker or left off a home remodel project. And it could be an odd size!
