Happy New Year??

So here we are. We made it!

Now what??

Honestly... I'm not sure. If I could get in line for the vaccine tomorrow, I would do it. But it's not that time yet. So we'll wait.

If you are one of the non-vaccine people, I hear you. I happen to be among the more tired crowd. The crowd that longs for life more like it used to be. Hugging, Sharing. More like it used to be. And if a vaccine will get us there... I'm in.

In other news, I had a birthday last month. A kind of big one! (50). It got me to thinking about what I want to be when I grow up. And I'm still not sure.

I've done the same jobs for a little over 15 years now. But this feels like a new chapter for some reason. Maybe God will let me in on the (I feel like) big secret about it in the coming months. Maybe He won't.

At any rate, Happy New Year. Here's to a much better this year than last year.

DIY Party Cups

Today I'm going to show you how to turn this...

Into this...

Super cool right?? I thought so too.

Did you know that you can get a colorful sleeve of cups (4 count) at Walmart (or Target, Dollar Store, etc...) for just $.88? Yep. And they're really pretty colors!

Let's think about Easter gathering, as that is upon us in another couple of weeks. You're having 15 for Easter dinner. You could do real glassware. But maybe you don't have enough real glasses to go around. Or maybe you're just really low key. You could grab some Solo cups.

Or you could do something a little bit special!

You could let each guest take their cup home for a momento of the their time spent with you :)

We are now offering all of our laptop/mug decals in sheet form; Sheet of 4, Sheet of 8, Sheet of 12 or Sheet of 16.

Now let me walk you through some super quick & easy steps to getting it done without losing your mind... or a lot of your time.

First, pick up some cups. You have lots of colors to choose from!

Next (or really you could do this first), select the decal(s) you want for your cups. We have twelve to choose from right now (Coming Soon with more!). You can pick your decals out from their product page, which I'll share below.

I like to provide a soft pillow-like area for the cup to lay on to prevent it from rolling. Just use a dish towel or hand towel, and roll it up a little on each side. That way the cup will lay in the middle without moving.

Now we're ready to apply the decal.

This is pretty easy to just eyeball it in the center. But if you aren't comfortable with that, you can always spot tape it on the left or right side so it stays exactly where you want it.

Unlike a wall or other flat surface, with the cups you can smooth over the decal with your fingers. Then slowly peel off the masking to reveal your newly-made-awesome cup!

And there you have it folks. It's as easy as that. We turned this very inexpensive sleeve of cups...

Into something pretty cool :)

Keep this idea in mind for family gatherings, parties, retreats, etc... any time you're going to have a LOT of peeps and want to send them each away with a little gift.

Pick your Sheet of Decals out HERE.

Remember to keep these hand-washable to increase the life of the vinyl.

Until next time, create a beaitiful day!
Jackie
Tapestry of Truth

WOTY - 2018

I'm happy to announce that 2018 has started off way better than 2017 did. That alone inspired my Word Of The Year for better things in the coming months.

I started thinking about my word back before Christmas. I didn't want to pick something hastily, and nothing was really speaking to me.

Along the way, it also got me to thinking about New Year's resolutions. You know, those promises we make to ourselves for January 1st and have failed miserably on by January 5th?? Yeh, me too - been there, done that!

It occurred to me that all resolutions are really just decisions. Questions, if you will. Repeated daily, over and over. All the while hoping to establish a new pattern; a new behavior.

Do I really need to order the pasta?

Do I really have to go for a run? It's so cold outside. And the gym is a whole 15 minute drive away!

Do I really have to have that snack?

Do I really have time for quiet time? God is always with me, right?? So it doesn't really make that much of a difference.

Do I really need to go shopping?

Do I really need to upgrade my phone/tablet/(fill in the technology blank)?

Truthfully, if we just gave ourselves honest answers to these questions we already know what we should do.

Do I really need to order the pasta? You know the chef salad is just as delicious as the pasta and just as filling! And you will feel more energized and less ready for a nap afterwards. You know what to order.

Do I really need to go for a run? It's so cold outside. And the gym is a whole 15 minute drive away! But remember, you have never regretted a workout after you get started doing it. Especially if you have to drive to get it done! Plus, you will feel like a CHAMP when it's over! You know what you need to do.

Do I really have to have that snack? Are you really hungry, or are you just tired or thirsty...or bored!? Just have a big glass of water first and give it a few minutes to see if it subsides. Or go for a walk. You know if you're truly hungry or not.

Do I really have time for quiet time? God is always with me, right?? So it doesn't really make that much of a difference. But remember how great you feel after quiet time? Especially when something jumps out at you like God is speaking directly into your heart! Wow, that is so awesome when that happens. And just meditating on His Word; it's never a waste of time. You know what you need to do.

Do I really need to go shopping? Seriously, there are already SO many things in your closet that you don't wear. And you don't even have space for anything else! Or... another purse, really?? 20 isn't enough?? Girlfriend, please. Stop! Do you really and truly need to go shopping, or is it your hobby of choice? You know what the answer is here.

Do I really need to upgrade my phone/tablet/(fill in the technology blank)? Does it work? Does it serve all your purposes? Does it do 95% of what a new device can do? Then you already know the answer to that one.

Resolutions are just you asking yourself if the "thing" is what you think you should be doing in that moment. Are you making the choice that is in line with the person you want to be? Let that last question realy sink in.

Forget the resolutions... make a change. Start repeating good (not necessarily easy) choices that puts you in line with the person you want to be

Which brings me to the point of this whole blogpost: your 2018 Word Of The Year!

OK... I realize that was the long way around in telling you how I landed on my WOTY. But hopefully something in it got your attention... in a good way.

The things I want to be better at and more consistant in can all be achieved if I do one thing more.

Listen.

Listen to the things I know in my head to be true (this workout will NOT kill me).

Listen to the Truth in my soul (I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:11)

Listen to my heart (love that person, even if they don't deserve it).

Listen to that person talking to you (they are valuable; give them your attention).

Listen to the silence (meditate on the abundance of your life).

Listen - before you act (if only for a moment).

Just listen.

Here it is on the wall of my home office.

So if you have selected your word and you're ready to commit to it in vinyl haha... head over to purchase your WOTY.

As it is written on that page, if your word is not on the list, just select "Custom Word" when you check out. It will direct you to the Contact Us page so you can shoot us an email of what the word is.

Good luck on making the choices that will put you in line with the person you want to become :)

Distinguishing between Thanksgiving and Thanksgetting

You know what my husband loves the most about me? Ok... that is a loaded question haha. So maybe it's not the thing that he loves the most. But he definitely loves it...

I do not like to shop. I tolerate it. And I do it when necessary. But it's not at the top of my list of things I do to treat myself. In fact, I'm not even sure that it's on that list! :)

Oddly enough though, these past few years I've changed this whole Black Friday thing up a bit.

Around noon, I take my little self out in the madness and buy some clothes for myself.

I typically get a pair of shoes or boots, maybe a sweater that I've been imagining to top off a few outfits, some workout clothes, and probably a pair of cute pants. It is the most I shop the entire year. Seriously.

And you know what? It's glorious!

Over and done in a few hours and I feel accomplished to knock out a few Christmas presents while I'm out there! Something about all the people and the energy (some not-so-good energy for sure). Kind of cool that everyone is pushing toward the same goal of 'getting the perfect gift' (even if the recipient is yourself).

Here's the thing though - at the end of the day I have to bring that stuff home and put it away with the stuff I already have. Then I'll have more stuff.

Bleh.

By choice, we live in a small house. No basement. No garage. So by default we cannot bring new stuff home. Because there is just no room for it!

[Pretty sure that is one of the top 3 arguments for getting a smaller home.]

Can I give you my #1 Christmas Shopping tip? If you bring home or open 15 presents (new pieces of stuff), make a promise to yourself that you will purge that many items or more of your old stuff at the same time. It's so freeing. And you will feel suuuuuper awesome inside for doing it!

That old saying "one man's junk is another man's treasure" can't really happen if your junk is stored up in your closet / basement / garage / attic / under your bed / trunk of your car ... you get the idea. In the spirit of Frozen let it go! :)

Maybe that's one of the reasons I was so drawn to vinyl lettering. It's decor for the wall, yes. But it doesn't consume your space. It's beautiful and can say so many different things, in a trillion different ways!... but doesn't consume your space.

But I could talk all day about that :)

Wishing you and yours a very blessed Thanksgiving. We are so very grateful for each of you.

Can vinyl lettering be defective??

So you bought some fabulously cute vinyl lettering. And you've measured, taped off, peeled off the glossy paper backing and secured it to the wall with the masking. Now you're ready for the fun part - the REVEAL!! :)

And then this...

The vinyl lettering is sticking to the masking when you go to peel if off :(

So could your lettering be defective?

Of course it is possible... but not probable. If you got your lettering at the dollar store, odds are it was made with some really inexpensive materials. And you might have a heck of a time installing it. And even if it does stick, it might fall off the wall in the future. Seriously... that is not a joke. That old saying 'you get what you pay for' applies to vinyl.

However, if you got your lettering from a dependable source (like Tapestry of Truth!!), then odds are you could be experiencing another problem:

* Did you clean the wall off first and let it completely dry? Sure, most walls 'look' clean. But there is almost always dust there. Always. And dust will hinder your stick-ability factor.

* After you removed the glossy paper backing and smoothed the masking (and lettering) to the wall, did you go over it again to ensure you had a good bond? It doesn't take much. Just take your widget and go back over the whole thing. The masking is only slightly sticky - the vinyl is super sticky. So you aren't going to over stick anything.

* Have you painted lately? Weird but true. New paint sometimes won't let anything stick to it. I can't really explain why. And it's not every brand. But I have definitely run into this problem in the past.

* Is your vinyl lettering older than 60 days? Because if it is, the vinyl and the masking have become more married and will be tougher to separate. It's still definitely doable. But be prepared to be slightly frustrated in this installation haha..

And listen, even if none of these apply, you still might run into this situation to some slight degree. But not to worry - it is still possible!

It will take longer, and you will have to go much (and I mean MUCH) slower, but you can still get your vinyl installed if you possess enough patience to work through it.

Starting at any corner of masking, peel it back slowly, keeping it very close to itself...

If it comes up/off with the masking, just lay it back agaist the wall and rub a little more with your widget on the outside of the masking while you're are slowly peeling it back. It's almost like you are feeding it to the wall. Because all you really need is for one end of the lettering/shape to stick and the rest of it will follow suit.

Like I said, it will take a lot longer this way. But the reward will be much greater after you have it fully installed :)

As always, we are right here, ready to help when you need it.

I had a customer (and pretty good friend) contact me to put a phrase she loved on an old window frame she got at a flea market. Chipped white paint and all, it was love at first sight for me...

She told me the type of font she was looking for and the phrase. It was pretty easy to select the perfect font for her. We went with P22 Cezanne; very old world and romantic. It only took about 15 minutes to install it on the glass. She loved it and personally, I think it turned out perfectly.

She said she is going to add a few of those decorative drawer knobs to the bottom and hang it in her bedroom.

This is just proof that you can turn something inexpensive and not so pretty... into something super cute and 100% YOU with a little vinyl! You know what they say... one (wo)man's junk is another (wo)man's treasure!

No way I could do that!! Part 1

"No way I could do that!" ... yeh, I've heard that one before. But hear me when I say this: yes, you can.

Well I have certainly said it myself before too! Only then it applied to base jumping, swimming with sharks, and other various no-way-Jose kind of stuff.

But installing vinyl lettering really is not that big a deal. You just have to break it down into manageable steps. And those steps depend on what you're installing - a single row of text, multiple rows of text (at once), or maybe a decal.

Today, let's talk about the most simple and probably most common... a single row of text.

The first thing you want to do after you have your product laid out and relaxed from shipping (because it will likely be a little curly when it comes out of the box) is to take a yard stick or ruler and draw a line under the words on the masking side of the product (this is the side that you can see through somewhat). It doesn't have to be immediately at the bottom of the words. But you want it to be even with the bottom of the lettering. So if you're holding it off a 1/2" on one side, you need to do that consistently from one end to the other.

This is your measuring guide.

Next, you want to hang it on your wall with spot tape on the right and left. (Side Note: if it's particularly long, enlist the help of a buddy just for this part. You can still do the rest by yourself if you have to.)

Using this amazing guide line that you've added to the outside of the masking, measure off of the ceiling or floor... or whatever other guide line you have at your disposal. You might even be uber cool and have a laser level! If you do, ***high fives***

After it is level and where you want it to ultimately be "stuck" put a solid tape hinge at the top to hold it firm in that position on the wall.

Now, if you're working with something small like a couple of words or a name, you can do the last step. But if you're not, and you have quite a few feet to peel and stick, let's do this next step first.

Take scissors and cut between the words, giving yourself manageable sections to hang one at a time. Like this:

***IMPORTANT NOTE*** Do NOT cut the vinyl itself. Vinyl lettering shrinks ever so slightly over time. And if you create a cut line between an even flow of lettering that will show up as a tiny split in the vinyl after it shrinks. Cut between the letters without cutting them.

After all your sections have been made, you are ready to peel and stick them.

So beginning at any end, start from the bottom and peel the masking away from the glossy paper backing. Make sure that the vinyl lettering is staying stuck to the masking and not the paper backing. If you have a stubborn letter, just put the two pieces back together and feed the letter onto the masking. Some times it is as easy as scraping the top of the masking with your fingernail. If you can just get the end of it to stay put (stuck to the masking), the rest of the letter should follow.

After the entire piece of glossy paper has been removed, start at the top (near the tape hinge) and smooth it against the wall. We sell installation widgets on here for almost nothing. But if you have a Pampered Chef stone widget (or something like it) that works great too!

Once the whole piece is smoothed out and stuck to the wall, go over it one more time with your widget to be sure you don't have any raised spots.

Then begin at any corner and slowly peel the masking off. Keep the masking close to itself, like the picture below. You don't inadvertantly pull the letters off the wall.

If I'm doing a whole row of text (6 ft +) by myself. I like to create and install sections about 6"-8" wide. I find I can really fly through it when they're small like that. And if I'm working on a ladder, I can do two sections at a time before I have to move the ladder.

Again, that whole "No way I could that!" we were talking about. Yeh... you totally can do it. And when you're done, you can marvel in how not-crazy-hard it was after all.

No way I could do that!! Part 2

"No way I could do that!" ... Part 2! Let's take another look at a vinyl installation that I hear from many people on; how there is no way they could do that!

Really? No way at all?? I'm not buying it.

Let's look at a vinyl installation that can come across kind of scary, but is really not much different than installing the single row of text.

Today, let's talk about installing multiple rows of text, like this:

A few weeks ago we discussed how to install a single row of vinyl lettering text in the blog post No way I could do that!! Part 1

A lot of that instruction is going to transfer to this one. So before you read on, take a trip over there and read that post first.

Done? Great :)

If you're installing the lettering exactly as it was shipped to you, and it was shipped on one sheet with multiple rows of text, let's start at the beginning.

Take it out the box/tube and let it relax.

Now with a straight edge or yard stick, on the masking side of the lettering (the side that is slightly see through), draw a straight line under the entire first row of text. This is what you are going to use to level the words on your wall.

Next, you want to hang it on your wall with spot tape on the right and left. (Side Note: if it's particularly long from right to left, enlist the help of a buddy just for this part. You can still do the rest by yourself if you have to.)

Then using the line you just drew in yourself, measure off of the ceiling or floor and get it level.

After it is level and where you want it to ultimately be "stuck" put a solid tape hinge at the top to hold it firm in that position on the wall.

OK... this part is kind of cool.

Remember in Part 1 where we cut between the words to create a sort of fringe; giving us more manageable sections to install one at a time? Well, we are going to do the exact same thing here. The only difference is that we are starting from the bottom of the product, under the last row of text.

***REMEMBER*** Do NOT cut the vinyl itself. Vinyl lettering shrinks ever so slightly over time. And if you create a cut line between an even flow of lettering, that will show up as a tiny split in the vinyl after it shrinks. Cut between the letters without cutting them.

You may have some oddly shaped pieces of fringe due to the cutting between (and not through) the words. But don't let that bother you. Just let it hang naturally on the wall from the tape hinge. It will all come together.

I have installed a lot (and I mean a LOT) of products like this, having multiple rows of text. So take it from me - it might look a little crazy while you're doing it. But it will all come together nicely in the end.

I promise.

Now that you have cut from bottom to top and created a bunch of manageable sections to work with, let's pick an end and install our first piece. If that piece is super weird and has a wider end or super narrow middle, cut it somewhere in the middle. Don't make the piece you're working with too small, but cut enough off that you can handle it by yourself.

Following the steps in Part 1, you just want to carefully peel the glossy paper backing away from the masking making sure that the lettering is staying stuck to the masking and not coming off with the glossy paper backing. After the paper is removed, start from the tape hinge on the top side of the masking and smooth it against the wall in a downward motion. Keep going until the whole piece is against the wall.

Then leave it alone and move to the next section on the right or the left. If you cut the bottom portion off of the piece you just installed, leave it be for now. We'll come back to that in a minute.

You want to get all the pieces from right to left installed first. Then, we come back and add the pieces that we cut off.

Now, begin with the next (or final) row(s) of text. Install it the very same way you did the other pieces. The only difference is, you're placing back into the image where you cut it out of. It's very much like putting a puzzle together.

And don't make it complicated. It's OK if you have a slight gap between the pieces of masking. You will never notice it when you're done. You won't.

Then, after all the pieces have been stuck to the wall, go back over the whole thing one more time with your widget (or whatever burnishing tool you might be using).

Now you're ready to peel each piece off, one at a time. Remember, it's always a good idea to keep the masking close to itself (the wall) when you're peeling it off. It will help prevent peeling the vinyl letters up... when you want them to stay down against the wall.

Here is a picture of it with all of the masking still on it, without the verse reference. I did it in 9 pieces.

And when you're done - Ta Da!! Beauty. You'll be all "I'm ready to do another one!" haha..

[Side note: Scripture always looks a little more Holy on my walls because I painted clouds on them :)]

Enjoy what you just did! And as always, we are right here ready to help you in any way we can.

Until next time, create a beautiful day!

Father's Day or any day... DIY

I feel like I'm always talking about DIY stuff. But hey - who doesn't love a good ole DIY project??! Am I right?? :)

OK, I'm not going to make this complicated. And hopefully you aren't either.

Here are myTop 3 Dad Gifts just off-the-cuff that I literally came up with while I was typing this.

1. Does he have a laptop?? I'm guessing the answer is probably yes. We have a lot of super cute decals that will stick right to the outside of that puppy. Here's an example of a couple of them...

2. Do you have a favorite picture of him... or better yes, of BOTH of you? OK, frames are cheap, my friend. No excuses. The older, kind of ornate, super cool ones are cheap at places like Goodwill or at yard sales. And the simple black ones are cheap at Walmart and Target. I even saw some not so dingy ones at the Dollar Tree! So again... #noexcuses. Here are a couple of picture frame examples to get your creative mind fired up...

3. Does he have a pretty fun sense of humor? OK, lgreat! :) Let's really have some fun with this one, shall we? Personally, I've given this one for biker dads as a birthday gift. But I looove the idea of putting it over dad's "throne" haha... I'm not sure we've ever sold one for that. But if you have, I wish y'all would send us a picture!

Just click on the tab at the top of the page that says "Father's Day Ideas" and you'll see all of these and more. Happy Shopping! And Happy Father's Day!

Remember to get those orders in by midnight on Friday, June 9th, to be sure we get them to you before the 18th.

Create a beautiful day.

Love,
Jackie

Easy DIY Mother's Day Gift

Getting down to the wire on Mother's Day 2017... 11 days from today! Are you ready??

I'm going to show you how to create a super easy and uber Cute DIY gift for your mama!

Let's start with the board you have. Here's a little 411 on boards. Typical lumber 2x'whatevers' are not as they appear. For example...

2 x 6 is really 1.5" x 5.5"

2 x 8 is really 1.5" x 7.5"

2 x 10 is really 1.5" x 9.5"

And if you're working with 1x material, that's another secret language...

1 x 6 is really .75" 5.5"

1 x 8 is really .75" x 7.25"

1 x 10 is really .75" x 9.25"

Then of course, there are boards from places like sawmills, furniture makers and the like. Those babies are usually going to be true to size. Like a 1 x 6 is really 1" x 6".

But here is the thing. Any board can be upcycled and made more beautiful. For this project, let's start with your board.

As long as it is at least 5.5" tall and 42" long, we can make this work. (Side Note: if you happen to have a special piece of wood that you would like to use but it's more like 5" tall, just contact us. We'll size your order slightly smaller so you can use it. This applies to larger/taller boards as well)

It's pretty doubtful that you find the perfect height board and it's the right length too. So figure out which size of the product you're going with and cut the length on your board to accomodate it. Here's the suggestions from the product page:

Cut 2 x 6 boards 42" long

Cut 2 x 8 boards 56" long

Cut 2 x 10 boards 70" long

Whether it's a 1x or a 2x, these sizes will fit.

Now then, you want your board to be kind of smooth. So grab that sanding paper. It doesn't have to be as smooth as the kitchen table. But you do want to have a nice level surface for the lettering to stick to. If you're working with anything except maybe rough-sawed lumber, this shoudln't take long.

If you want to stain it or paint it before you apply the lettering, now is that time for that too! I'd give either a few hours of dry time before applying the lettering, just to ensure a good 'stick'. But if you can wait a whole day, even better.

I covered this in great detail in The Complete Guide to Creating Craft Boards. Which is FREE when you sign up for our newsletter. (Click on the little envelope in the upper right-hand corner of this page to sign up and get your free copy!)

The product comes with instructions to install the lettering. Follow those and you should be A-OK!

Homemade gifts are the best gifts. Really. They don't have to be perfect to be loved. Click on the picture below to get to the product page of what we've been talking about here.

So be patient with yourself. Follow the instructions. And enjoy the process :) As always, I'm one shout away if you need any help! jackie@tapestryoftruth.com

Create something beautiful today,
Jackie

ONE Word

What if you had to sum up your start to 2017... what would you come up with?? I think if you dug deep you'd surprise yourself a little.

I follow a wonderful business blogger and coach, Christine Kane, that encourages people to pick a WOTY every year for themselves. And you're like "What's a WOTY??" It stands for Word of the Year. And yes, I realize it's already April, but work with me here.

I've had some good ones over the past few years (Commit, Growth, Intention). But this year I chose Foundation. And you getting this newsletter in April instead of January has a little bit to do with why that is my word this year.

Let me tell you. Actually, let me promise you, that stuff will happen. LIFE will happen. Small stuff, sure. But you will inevitably have something big happen as well. And when you do. You better have a strong foundation to stand on.

One day your health (or your loved one's) could be put to the test from an injury or an illness. If you have a strong healthy foundation to begin with, you'll be a lot better off.

Imagine a major repair needing to take place on your home or car. You better have that financial foundation built (i.e. money saved) so it doesn't put you into debt taking care of it.

What if that day comes that you get your heart broken and someone you love lets you down. You need a solid emotional foundation to deal with it.. instead of it dealing with you.

As you can bet, my Foundation is in Christ. But I like to take care of the other "foundations" in my life so I can handle what comes my family's way.

My husband had a mountain biking accident on January 6th. The crash itself wasn't that bad (seemingly anyway), but it resulted in very serious medical complications. I am positive that if he hadn't been as strong and healthy as he was going into it, he might not have come out of it as well as he did. Not to mention having things in place where we weren't going to financially implode during his 26 days in the hospital.

We had incredible support from our foundation of family and friends. And without a doubt, our foundation in Christ got us through the scariest parts of it.

So the word on my wall that I get to see and reflect on every single day is.. Foundation. I can honestly say that it is THE perfect choice of word for my (our) year.

Now what about you, what's your One Word? Let me help...

We've comprised a list of 45 different words. Most likely, one will speak to you more than the others. There are also 21 fonts. You pick one word in any one font and we'll size it to 4" tall (that's overall height from the bottom of a g or y... and to the top of a k, l or b.

They are all the same price, and Shipping is still FREE (we're awesome that way).

Here's to an amazing rest of the year :) Create something beautiful today!

Think Outside of the (Shadow) Box

Well, here we are once again... right around the corner from Christmas!

Giving great gifts shouldn't be as difficult (or UNfun) as it can be. Can I get an Amen??

The good news is that I'm here to help :)

Today I'm going to give you an awesome idea for a gift for that special someone that they will love, and that you can DIY on the cheap!

It started for me as a trip to the local Hobby Lobby for something I could create as a gift for my husband's mom's surprise birthday party. I didn't really have any agenda going in. Just hoping and praying something would speak to me. And happily, it did :)

I started with this shadow box that I got there. It was on sale for around $7.00...

Perfecto! Because I knew it would hold some of the flowers that I had dried from grandma's (her mom's) funeral that I had at home.

OK - I can hear you from way over here "Who has dried funeral flowers just laying around???!"

You could use this idea with a pet's picture, or dog collar; you could change the phrase on the front to something about little boys and use a pair of baby socks or little baby shoes. Work with me here, sister! There are plenty of ideas for this gift!

Now then, back to the project at hand...

Next, I just needed the background to be pretty. So I picked up a package of craft paper that gave me about a dozen background options.

And then last, I just needed some pretty lettering for the inside of the front glass (I printed it backwards so cleaning the outside of the shadow box would never harm the lettering). I wish I had gotten a better picture of the finished product, but I was literally wrapping it to get to the surprise party (which is SO me...).

It did turn out beautifully. I went with silver lettering since the frame had a sort of silver rub on the barnwood finish. She loved it and I was pretty proud of how well it turned out.

And that, my friends, is how you create a priceless gift with very little dough :)

Presentation 101

Hey there :)

Well, if you've been into any crafting, Pinterest or any other DIY sorta thing as of late, you know about the increased popularity of vinyl lettering and decals! Seriously, there are soooo many ideas out there. It is a bit mind-blowing.

What I'm going to talk to you about today is how you can transform something ordinary... into something extraordinary!

Here are just a few ideas of putting a unique twist on something with a little imagination:

Lettering an inexpensive picture frame and putting a photo in it from a special time that was shared.

Stenciling a newlywed couple's last name and wedding date to a cool old board.

Purchasing someone's name or a cute short phrase for their laptop, or over their computer monitor.

Putting the words Just because... on a pretty bottle/vase you got at Goodwill and fill it with flowers.

Personalizing baskets that each kid has for their stuff by the front/back door.

And the list goes on and on. Like really. It does.

So think outside of your creative box. There are a world of possibilities waiting for you!

Create a beautiful day!
Jackie
